Remember our last post about why people love Charleston? Among the many reasons, it’s hard to beat the mild seasonal temperatures and gorgeous Lowcountry scenery that draw visitors year-round. The sprawling live oaks draped with Spanish moss, fragrant magnolia blossoms, manicured gardens and seagrass beds along the waterfront – with a natural backdrop like this, you just have to get outside and seize the (wedding) day!

These fun-loving couples are why we love daytime celebrations at The River House.  We also love that both made the most of a long weekend, with Sunday weddings that allowed their guests to enjoy an extended Charleston getaway!

Katie and Ben said “I do” on the banks of the Ashley River one Sunday mid-morning – in a sweet ceremony that included readings from The Velveteen Rabbit children’s book – before kicking off their afternoon reception with lawn games, music, dancing and laughter. Between rounds of corn hole and oversized jenga, guests sipped bloody marys and mimosas paired with brunch fare like made-to-order omelets and miniature banana puddings.

For Ellie and her mister Kevin, a Southern gentleman who loves to hunt, rustic accents brought a down-home feel to the couple’s stylish waterfront celebration – which took place in January, by the way (see what we mean about winter weather in Charleston – look at that sunshine!). Ellie’s gorgeous florals and bright pops of sapphire were a perfect match for The River House at Lowndes Grove, and outdoor fire pits offered an inviting retreat for guests to kick back and relax throughout the daytime wedding reception.
