There’s no shortage of gorgeous Southern wedding inspiration here on the PPHG Blog, but ever wonder what it’s like to be part of the team that brings our most incredible events to life?
If you’re thinking about a career in weddings, special events or hospitality, there’s no better time – or place like Charleston – to take that first step behind the scenes. So where to start? We asked our seasoned Patrick Properties event pros about one of the best ways to jump in, gain hands-on experience and major industry connections. Bonus: who doesn’t love a flexible work schedule?
Today, we’re uncovering the many pros of joining the PPHG banquet team as a perfect entry to a career in events – and here’s why:
The exposure: The up-close and personal perspective will help you discover what you love most about special events, whether it’s the excitement of setup or a flawless dinner service, while giving you a complete picture of the industry’s many components as a whole. The exposure will help you channel your passions and refine your career plans.
The experience: You’ll have a foot in the door with real-world industry training alongside some of the top wedding professionals in the business, experience you simply won’t receive from the classroom alone. Coupled with their guidance, insight and expertise, the experience is a springboard for a number of different roles within the hospitality industry – but it will take you only so far without a professional demeanor and can-do attitude to match! Prove that you’re able to complete any task with a smile, and you’re well on your way.
The connections: Can we talk about standout references on your resume? Patrick Properties is Charleston’s most respected hospitality company, and we’re fortunate to have built valuable relationships with Charleston’s most talented planners and event vendors over the course of more than two decades. Jump at this chance to create a top-notch professional impression while building your circle of contacts who will serve as important resources down the road.
The flexible schedule (and competitive pay): Banquet staff positions are part-time with flexible hours, with an emphasis on weekends – when you have more leisure time and less obligations than during the week. You can expect to work a minimum of 6 shifts per month during the busy spring and autumn months and take home an hourly wage $12.00/hr. Done and done.
We are continually inspired by the dedicated team here at Patrick Properties. Without their drive and passion, it would be impossible to create the exquisite caliber of events with the warm service and celebrated cuisine our guests expect across each of our historic Downtown Charleston venues!
