Ask the Experts: Is March Too Early for a Spring Wedding in Charleston?

We’re about to drop some serious insider knowledge from the PPHG events team, because springtime in Charleston is every bit as enchanting as you’ve imagined – and the best part? The season begins a full month earlier than many other destinations! If you’re thinking about an early spring wedding date, let us show you why March is one month not to overlook.

Beauty is in full bloom! March bursts to life with as much color and fanfare as the Southern azaleas blossoming throughout the gardens of Lowndes Grove and The William Aiken House. Shake off the winter whites and play up this natural backdrop, especially with bright florals and playful patterns as part of your Charleston wedding décor.

Chilly temperatures may be lingering elsewhere, but thanks to Charleston’s waterfront setting and subtropical climate, it’s not uncommon to enjoy plenty of mild, sunny days all month long. March also marks the beginning of Daylight Savings Time – allowing you to make the most of those extra hours of evening light perfect for al fresco dinner or cocktail hour!

March also brings an earlier crop to liven up your wedding menu with spring produce from our Lowcountry farms. Think strawberries, beets, artichokes and peas. Lighter dishes like fresh asparagus and colorful ratatouille paired alongside local grouper are perfectly suited to the season and a welcome transition from heartier winter menus.
