The iconic American Theater opened in 1942 as Charleston’s premier movie house. This Art Deco gem sits central downtown on historic King Street, making it the preferred venue for weddings and after parties. Caitlin + Tyler took advantage of every opportunity to personalize their wedding day at the American Theater and threw one grand reception! As USC and UMD graduates respectively, these two raised not only a glass, but a hand towel on their big day and partied into the late night. Cue Darude’s Sandstorm! Caitlin + Tyler creatively designed a monogram to be displayed on either side of the stage in the Grand Ballroom and had posters created for the interior + exterior vintage movie display frames. Using Tyler’s last name, these two also came up with a playful marquee message that set the stage for a both a grand entrance + exit. It really was a RAD wedding!

Perhaps the Theater’s best kept secret? Stars Lounge! Up the stairs from the lobby and concessions stand is another small stairwell that leads to Stars Lounge. This additional venue space is distinguished by original neon lights and a stunning Art Deco mural. With high-top cocktail tables, a built-in bar, and additional AV equipment, the potential usage for this space is unlimited. In the past, we have seen this space used to get ready or for a fun cocktail hour setup. With a glass wall that overlooks the greater lobby, this is also and ideal location for a first look!
